What Do I Do With This Wool Suiting?

Pics:

It's 60" wide and I have two and a half yards--wiggle dress?  Circle skirt and short drapey jacket?  It drapes oh so nice and has mild-to-moderate fray.  I have the opposite problem from many sewing bloggers in that I have a small but growing wardrobe of practical separates (you can never have enough) and zero me-made dress outfits, so as resistant as I am to sewing special-occasion garments, that's probably the direction I should go here.

Any pattern suggestions (I draft my own, but I often use vintage patterns as a model)?  Y'all know how I love vintage silhouettes.  Hit me with your best shot.

  1. I'd definitely go with a wiggle dress. Fully lined, since it's wool.

  5. I'm late for this party but wanted to say... I watch a lot of old movies too. Often, even with visible plaids and bold prints, a dress or skirt suit will have an obvious center front seam. Oh like for instance a midi with inverted pleats that start halfway down - it has to have a center seam due to the pleat, and the pieces are cut on the grain like usual. So while horizontally the plaid matches up if you look up and down that seam it could be two dark squares together or two light or just slivers or whatever. Anyway my point is there's plenty of bold plaids and checks like this in old movies - often as a skirt suit - so go crazy. As far as a dress you might have to add a blouse, sweater, or cape to make it an "outfit". Looking forward to see what you come up with.
